Annual eye screening at South Parramatta Granville Preschool

On Wednesday, 26 October 2022, South Parramatta Granville Preschool will welcome the Statewide Eyesight Preschooler Screening (StEPS) Program at our Granville Childcare. A team of lovely nurses will screen the children’ eyesight. Our Granville daycare is happy to host StEPS, an initiative of the NSW Ministry of Health, which offers all 4 year old children a free vision screening assessment.

It is highly recommended that all 4 year old children participate in the vision screening program

as many vision problems remain undetected unless a child’s vision is screened by a trained vision screener. Granville Preschool children will be screened at our premises (we will set up a lovely treatment room at the back of the childcare). The screening will take approximately 10 minutes per child, and will be performed by StEPS Program staff employed by Western Sydney Local Health District. Staff are trained specifically in vision screening of young children and have had the appropriate Working with Children Checks.

The child’s vision will be screened one eye at a time and no drops will be used.

South Parramatta Granville Preschool will inform all parents/carers of children who have their vision screened of the results of their child’s vision screening assessment – these results are confidential. Should a vision problem be detected parents/carers will receive a letter asking them to have their child’s vision fully tested by an eye health professional.

As children’s eyes continue to develop until approximately 8 years of age it is important to ensure every child’s vision develops normally throughout these formative years and Western Sydney Local Health District recommends that a child’s vision be tested fully by an eye health professional if there are any concerns regarding the child’s vision.

Granville Preschool will send information and consent forms to all families at the of September.
